Auburn won 23–22, driving the length of the field in the final two minutes with freshman running back Bo Jackson scoring the winning touchdown on the memorable play called “Bo Over the Top”. This was Auburn’s first Iron Bowl win in ten years and the last to be coached by Bear Bryant, who retired after the season and died exactly 60 days after this game.
